Misdemeanors in Texas are categorized by the relative seriousness of the offense into three categories: Class A misdemeanors, Class B misdemeanors and Class C misdemeanors.
Class A misdemeanors: An individual adjudged guilty of a Class A misdemeanor shall be punished by imposing a fine on him\her which may be up to $4,000,confinement in jail for a term not to exceed one year or both fine and confinement.
Class B misdemeanors: An individual adjudged guilty of a Class B misdemeanor will be liable to pay a fine upto$2,000 or confinement in jail for a term not to exceed 180 days or both in few cases.
Class C misdemeanors: An individual adjudged guilty of a Class C misdemeanor shall be punished by a fine which can be up to$500. Conviction of a Class C misdemeanor does not impose any legal disability or disadvantage.
